1. It Wasn't What You'd Expect
Giving the "Feeling Myself" title, the song's sexual references and it's harder-than-softer style, one might have expected a dark and tough video with plenty of skin and scenes to be blurred or edited out. In a pleasantly surprising twist, Minaj and King Bey went for bright, colorful, fun, silly, and hilarious BFF-ery that we mortals can merely fantasize about. If only we could look that cool being that corny. I loved the candid and unrehearsed feel; though it would've been nice to have a little more going on in some shots besides them playing in their hair and caressing their curves.
2. "It's Dope, Nicki!"
At the beginning of the video, we get set footage of them doing the song's opening lines outside of the Coachella road sign. What cracks me up is that the director yells "It's dope, Nicki!" even though she's just cutely posing while Beyoncé is the one working the camera. I'm sure it was a status update, but it was still a funny irony.
3. Is That Bubblicious Gum??!
I can't get over how freakin' cute OBeyKa's (I could call them NickOncé, but that's too obvious) candy exchange was. It was like a scene straight off the playground. Nicki hungrily chomps into a sweet treat that Beyoncé's eyes glimmer with hope is either Bubblicious gum or Now and Later candy. In child-like tones, Nicki confirms it's the latter and asks Bey if she wants some, to which she instantly replies "Yeah." Adorbs. I need a gif.
Even when you've indisputably stopped the pop culture and media world with a surprise album release, it's hard to not look ridiculous bragging about it when you're adult pretending to be gangsta'...in a kiddy pool...wearing fur... and playing with water guns...or on a floatation device...on land...but Beyoncé made herself look that much more royal. The fabulousness and perfect timing of shooting a water gun after reminding us she "stopped the world" and calmly giving us permission to "carry on" while she serenely sun-bathes is all you need to realize it's her world and we're just living in it.
As mentioned in point 1, OBeyKa (I like this name; I'm going with it) kept it PG-13, but these beautiful creatures are inherently sexy, okay? Leaking out enough sexiness to cause you to leak and irritate republicans was inevitable. My queen (i.e. Beyoncé; O.G. BeyHive member here) was glowing in every shot, but particularly with the "mirror" scenes did my eyes glaze over and drool came out of my mouth as I repeated "purrrrrtyyy..." or had an uncomfortable thought (she's like a mentor, alright? It's hard to have a dirty thought about her without feeling wrong, haha). Can't deal with the sexy face. I had no issues at all basking in the glory of Minaj in that sheer "PEVERT" jersey, flawless (pun intended) makeup and epic weave pony, though. I was here for everything she wanted to give me and I didn't feel like a pervert for it. *Proceeds to leak* Nicki, it isn't just every "hood dude's dream, fantasizing about you and Bey;" it's America's. We're wanting a different kind of pie and a different kind of house now.
Speaking of beautiful creatures, one of Beyoncé's main dancers (if you're not BeyHive, you might remember her from the "Heaven" video), Ashley Everett, makes a cameo. I never get tired of seeing her.
For all the guys who find it stimulating to see 2 women sharing anything, "Feeling Myself" is like Christmas (unless they're gay or racist). Minaj and Beyoncé share a mirror, a kiddy pool, candy, and feed each other burgers and fries. The foodie in me was lusting after that burger. It looked like it had everything on it and was the freshest, juiciest...let me stop. I wonder how much meat they had to ingest before getting that shot right. Nicki downed her burger with her own Myx Moscato Limited Edition Fusions brand, which was pretty disappointing to the taste, I must say. It was like flavored water or soda; it was pretty bland and not as sweet as I was hoping, but I digress. The homoeroticism and food porn were a bonus to the straight hilarity of Beyonce` being an excellent hands-free food catcher and the pair coupling the expression of burger goodness with that of "dang, her flow's on point!" against Nicki's speeding lines.
8. Beyoncé Riding an Inflatable Dolphin
Only Beyoncé can ride an inflatable dolphin like it's a mechanical bull or her partition chair. It was pretty impressive.
9. You Got That Swag Sauce, You Drippin' Swagu, Ooh!
The video's summery, kick-back, *Ice Cube voice* "today-was-a-good-day" vibes reminded me a lot of Beyoncé's "Party" from late 2011, emphasis on the "late." As cute as "Party" was (I love a good Solange and Kelly Rowland cameo), I have distinct memories of my friend calling me and saying "How she gon' put out this summer-a** video in the fall?! It's bad enough J.Cole is in it and not Andre` 3000!" "Feeling Myself" made up for it and was kind of like a sequel lol.
10. Beyonce` Taking Selfies While Nicki Twerks
You know you're BeyHive when.... it's humanly possible for you to look past a gyrating anaconda so you can see what Beyonce` is doing. While Nicki was rapping (and rotating) about how her "pretty game always has dudes on geek," Bey was comfily snapping away; another giggle-worthy moment. I know 90% of this list has to do with Beyoncé (who's just a featured artist), when I said I dreamt of Nicki, but the jersey was all I needed to do that and well...I'm BeyHive and don't care. *Flips hair and skips away*
