After enjoying "The View" (appearance in the next post), Beyonce` chatted with late-night TV host Jimmy Fallon in a short interview and performed an alternate, funky version of "Best Thing I Never Had" with hip-hop's most famous band, The Roots! See the performance below. Also below is a poll: what did you think of the alternate version of "Best Thing?" I loved it! Note: You can see The Roots jam with Jimmy every weeknight at 12:35am EST. :)

With just her background singers, and her pianist, Rie Tsuji, Beyonce`performed scaled back, piano versions of "Best Thing I Never Had" and "1+1" on "The View" today and then sat down for an interview to discuss her new ventures and her year off. If you look closely, Beyonce` had two different background singers; not sure if the original "Mamas" have been replaced, but as soon as I find out, J.Says will let you know! Don't forget Beyonce` will also be on tonight's NBC'S "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" at 12:35am EST. Enjoy! Kelly's Racy Vibe Cover (Aug/Sept 2011) So I’m pissed. Instead of “Here I Am,” the album should be called “Here’s My Vagina.” I feel that with this album, Kelly Rowland has skanked herself out; over-sexualizing her image and sound to sell records. On the deluxe edition, 5 out of 12 tracks are infused with sexual content. The lyrics aren’t explicit enough for the album to be slapped with a “parental advisory” label, but bold enough to where you can’t play them in front of a 12-year old. The rest of the album is basic R&B/Dance. Like any other K.Row fan, I’m ready for her to have her moment in the sun with platinum records and spectacular tours, but at what expense? I much rather see her never have a hit single again, than for her to rise to stardom with songs like “Motivation” and “Lay it On Me” and compromise her art. I’m debating on purchasing her album. On one hand, I want to contribute to her sales so that she won’t have another low-selling record. On the other hand, I don’t want to communicate to her or her record label that this material is acceptable. What do you guys think? Should I buy the album? To read the more objective, diplomatic review, see http://jsays.weebly.com/2/post/2011/07/kelly-rowland-here-i-am-deluxe.html Produced by Toddrick Hall. YAASSS for bees representin'!! Oh, and I see that Janet Jackson choreo too! :) lol Columbia/Epic Label Group Chairman Rob Stringer recently gave an interview with Billboard.com, addressing the multiple rumors regarding the label response to Beyonce’s release of “4.” “The story about us being unhappy with the record and stuff is just not true…We’re really, really happy with it…the numbers are very good everywhere. We thought the record was great from the beginning, and some of the stuff that is happening now is vindication of it.” Since April, rumors have swirled that executives from Columbia Records (Beyonce’s home label) were concerned about the poor chart and sales performance of “4’s” debut single, “Run the World” and desired a new release date and reconstruction of the entire album, particularly after its 3-week early online leak. “We didn’t want the leaks to happen,” Stringer says, “but there was never any discussion of this album moving. It has always been that date (June 28)…there was never conversation about pushing it back, bringing it forward, changing the songs-none of it. Those conversations never existed.” Looking at the multidimensional and massive marketing of other 2011 album releases, like Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” fans assumed that“4” would be packaged with loads of bonus features and other related products to retain sales. Stringer discussed the long-term promotional plans. “The main concentration for the next few months is to get this record working everywhere. The touring plan is extensive. The promo plan is extensive. We also know we’re going to put out a lot of singles and shoot a lot of videos from the record. There’s enough positive information that we think we can work the record for another 18 months, and hopefully over that period we’ll all be proved right that this is an important record and a commercially successful record.” “4”sold 310,000 copies its 1st week and debuted at #1 on the U.S. chart. Hopefully Stringer’s comments will put the rumors to rest. Ever since the video premiere of Beyonce’s latest single, “Best Thing I Never
Had,” people have been scrambling to find out who designed the gorgeous couture wedding gown she’s wearing. Well, according to Instyle Magazine’s website, the gown was designed by Baracci Beverly Hills. The dress in the reception scene was by Vera Wang and the lingerie in the opening was by Agent Provocateur. Case closed! :) Below are up-close pictures of the gown showcased in the Barracci Boutique. Photos provided by jaeinkspeaks.com. Do you think the songs on Beyonce's new album "4" tell a story? What about the song titles? I'm challenging YOU to make a poem out of the song-titles. The person who writes the best poem (as judged by J.Says) will win a cool piece of Beyonce` paraphernalia. You must use all 15 titles from the deluxe edition of "4." You do not have to use the titles in order. Be creative and have fun. Submit your poem by clicking the "Contact/Info" tab on this site and fill out the form. The contest ends August 8, 2011. Just in case you need it, the tracklist is: 1+1, I Care, I Miss You, Best Thing I Never Had, Party, Rather Die Young, Love On Top, Countdown, Start Over, End of Time, I Was Here, Run The World, Lay Up Under Me, Schoolin' Life & Dance For You. The video for "Best Thing I Never Had" is FINALLY here!! (See below). My only major criticism is that the video didn't give us much of a backstory in regards to the ex-boyfriend she's singing about. About 50-60% of the video is Beyonce` prancing around-which I hate. She has a bad habit of filming her videos in that fashion. She often wastes great opportunities for visual storytelling. Other than that, the fashion was of course on point and the other 50-40% was entertaining. What did YOU think? Photo: Beyonceworld.net According to an article on Billboard Magazine's website, Beyonce's new solo album, "4", has sold 310,000 copies in its 1st week (from Nielsen SoundScan statistics). Although "4" is the singer's lowest selling debut (Dangerously in Love=317,000, B'Day=541,000, I Am...Sasha Fierce=482,000), the album will still rank as the #1 album for the week. The 1st 3 singles from the album, "Run the World (Girls)," "1+1" and "Best Thing I Never Had" have all performed sparingly, which may be the cause of "4's" weaker debut, as suggested by the article. Other possible impacting factors are the 3-week early online leak and the fact that overall albums sales have decreased at a rate of 8% per year since 1999. Here are the links to Billboard's article and research about the decline of record sales: (http://www.billboard.com/news/beyonce-notches-4th-billboard-200-no-1-with-1005264652.story#/news/beyonce-notches-4th-billboard-200-no-1-with-1005264652.story) (http://money.cnn.com/2010/02/02/news/ companies/napster_music_industry/) What's your favorite song from "4"? Mine is "1+1." :) Be sure to vote on the other polls along the side of this page, including "What's Beyonce's Best Solo Album?" :) |
