![]() Bey's racy February 2013 cover BeyHive, we all get a little riled up when people suggest that Beyonce` isn’t a “real” artist or that there isn’t much of a difference between her and your average pop-tart. We only know better because we watch everything she does and listen to every bit of music. Despite how unfair or upsetting other’s criticisms are, we can’t blame them sometimes as they’re on the outside-looking-in and can only go off of what they see or hear. Beyonce` dons the February cover of GQ wearing a bikini piece and a tiny shirt with the bottom of her breasts peeking out. This is the type of cover that other female artists usually do, not Beyonce`. When I make the argument that Beyonce` isn’t as risqué or suggestive as some other artists, I mention that I’ve never seen even a sliver of Beyonce’s private parts; can’t use that as a talking point now. Bey has done a lot to differentiate herself musically, personally and with her image. She is often applauded for her regality and considered a healthy role model for women. A cover like this gives the impression to the unknowing that’s she just another scantily-clad singer whose career is dependent or based on sex appeal. I’m not saying it’s all over now because of this one magazine cover; I’m saying this cover is counteractive to a more positive perception. Not to mention, it gives more fuel to those who argue Bey’s status as a symbol of female empowerment and claim she objectifies herself. Do you think the cover is too sexy or revealing?

i get your point, but this is not the first time Bey did a sexy and provocative photo shoot. The pictures inside are on point.

Clearly, you didn't see "I’m not saying it’s all over now because of this one magazine cover; I’m saying this cover is counteractive to a more positive perception." She didn't say that Bey no longer empowers women or isn't classy. She's saying that other people who will see this cover might think that she's not. Damn, pay attention. It seems no matter how clearlry J explains things, ya'll miss the point.

Maybe she should stop thinking about what other people will say, and get the mind of her own.

UGH....you know good and well what people think of you affects your career. I can't believe you honestly don't see where she's going with this.

I completely understand what the writer was saying.Do I agree to an extent I feel like ppl who see this and think that are so far behind. For me I see this picture and feel empowered to embrace the woman that I am.Those who can will and those who don't won't..

I'm sorry, I agree with this article. Any time she takes a provocative photo, it CAN imply something about her that's not true. Beyonce` IS a classy lady and I think she should be more selective about the types of photos she takes.

If you zoom up, you can see she's still wearing a bra that covers the rest of her boob. lol

Yes, a great majority of what you said is true. I don't think it's going to be a habit either; I tried to imply in my article that if it should become a habit, how she is viewed might change. Beyonce` does indeed have a long way to go to get to "vulgar," I hope it stays that way. You're not the first woman to say that they find the photo empowering; I'm glad that some are able to pull that from it. I haven't read the interview yet; I'm trying to save it for when I get my hands on the official copy :) lol

Might I also add, being half naked doesn't equate to being provovative or trashy. The way you go about it does. Beyonce has never been trashy like Rihanna or Madonna when it comes to selling sex.

Beyonce may not be like a Rihanna for whom we see a half naked picture of almost every day. But she's not exactly an Adele either? She's somewhere in the middle. Beyonce has been known to dress a little on the sexy side and show a lot of skin. I've seen a few mag covers she's done in the past where she had on a bikini or was very sexed up. So this is not exactly the first time she's ever done this. Look, if you got it you can flaunt it. But the difference between Bey and all those other pop artists is that at the end of the day she can back it up with real talent.

Seriously Beyonce`, WTH?!?Most people figure out pretty quickly that I LOVE Beyonce`. She is my queen diva of choice. But every now and then, she does something that irritates or perplexes me. Here, I tell what's been buggin me about the Bee lately (with reviews and love for the Queen Bee in between). Archives
